Johannes Madiol

About

Lith prints and platinum prints

Johannes Madiol's story begins in Chicago. Ludovicus Madiol and Alida Nelis, both immigrants from Holland, met and married there. Johannes was born in 1931.

A passion for recording images of people, events and scenery seemed to be an inherent part of Johannes's essence. His first camera was his father's 1916 Kodak Autographic. His pictures were predominately of family members and events. In January, 1952, while stationed in Korea, Johannes purchased a Zeiss Ikon Contessa. A fellow soldier introduced him to the darkroom and Johannes returned to the United States with a pictorial record of his experiences while stationed in Korea.

In 1970, Johannes began working with 35mm film. He took photography classes at a nearby community college, read books, experimented and communicated with other photographers. His artistry is beautifully expressed in the platinum, palladium and silver gelatin techniques. The pictures offered here are 4x5 & 5x7 palladium.

He recently viewed the beautiful pictures of Anastasiia Zavalo. a young photographer residing in the Ukraine. Her work has inspired Johannes to pursue sharing his artistic images using the Lith process as discussed in Tim Rudman's, The Master Photographer's Lith Printing Course.

He now lives in Phoenix, AZ.
